Three steps to take as you begin to make changes and develop your personalized program to better health.
➢ Don’t force total denial of your favorite foods and all the adjustments at the same time, allow time to really get in the mode of changing one habit at a time.
➢ Understand there may be one food, habit or “issue” you keep, such as chocolate or ribs occasionally. Oh well, that’s still going to be better than where you used to be – its’ OK.
➢ Keep a journal to monitor your progress and help you see where your pitfalls / weak points are so we can plan alternatives to sidestep them as often as possible until it becomes a habit.
In your journaling remember to keep in mind what type of “feelings” are associated with which foods you are choosing. Getting to know yourself and how you function within your stress levels help you make choices that will be effective.
Keep your plan and choices to yourself as you begin to “look” at how you deal with things. We often want to share with others what we are doing and why. Unfortunately there are a lot of “well meaning” friends who love to “help” with their opinions and their advice may not be what is true and will work for us. This may sound cold and selfish but can be a significant factor for those of us with low self esteem that tend to listen to others more than we should.
Remember to learn to trust yourself while being kind and gentle – we’ll do it for others but often not for ourselves. Learn to show and give love to yourself as this is the most important thing needed as you begin to take care of your body in a positive way. When you honor and love your body and all it does for you, caring about it and the “you” that lives in this body then facing your shortcomings and making changes comes willingly and easier.
This may sound foreign to anything you are used to – but trust me, as I shifted my view of myself and my body, I began to chose to feel good physically and emotionally. Over time it becomes second nature and it’s really wonderful to feel good about yourself instead of always feeling insecure or negative about yourself.
Blessings as you explore learning to “love” the you that you are now and the one that can unfold into where you’d like to be. Soon you can be doing a “Happy Dance” to celebrate a new habit and view of yourself. Celebrate the beautiful you that you are – inside and out!
