Gifts of Love and Acts of Kindness

Greetings,

Our Tips for this week when facing the “food” part of the holidays:

–       Chat a little more and eat a little less.

–       Find a diversion when you’re ready to go back for another helping — stop to chat with someone

–       When you have finished your pre-decided amount of food, get a strong piece of gum or breath mint to refresh your mouth.  (Others will appreciate this too and you will look like you are being polite.) This will also make the next thing you choose to eat not taste the same

–       And if you are chewing gum, though you might be able to walk and chew gum at the same time – you can’t eat and chew gum at the same time! (Or if you do, the food could taste a little weird and you would be challenged when it comes time to swallow).  If you have TMJ and therefore don’t usually chew gum, choose a softer type and cut the strips in half or less (this works, as I do it a lot or just eat peppermint candies).

Let’s take a minute to look at the “important” gifts to be given and to receive this Christmas Season.

As we approach the holiday season, a lot of emphasis is placed on gifts,
Of which there are many different kinds.
The world seems to focus mostly on the ones that can be bought with money,
The things we collect and possess that give temporary satisfaction.
Sadly, often people try to find their own worth and value through how much and what they possess.
However, the greatest gift we can have and show is love.
There are so many hurting people in the world
and sometimes we are the one hurting.
They might just need the gift of a smile,
Or an outstretched hand extended to give the help they have been praying for.
The Gift of a word of encouragement, when one is feeling down and out.
Then there are the gifts of loving friends and family,
The joy of watching a child find delight in the world,
Being the recipient of a thoughtful gesture.
The gift of a dear friend who takes the time to listen, to encourage.
And never lose sight of the blessing you are,
With the gifts you bring into this world, that only you can give.
And who always believes in you even when you don’t believe in yourself.

The greatest way to repay a gift we have received,
Is to brighten the day of another, with a simple gesture that shows love.
As we realize the holes in our heart, from the hurt and pain in our lives
Can only be filled by God’s love shown to us through the actions of others,
Then we can show His Love by sharing it each and every day.
Can we take the time to notice and extend random acts of kindness,
Not only to those we know, but to the stranger passing by
That may be dealing with things we cannot even comprehend?

I have been so greatly blessed throughout my life
To have individuals who have touched my life in so many ways
With such incredible, unselfish acts,
And in the small, simple ways that often were just sharing a smile or a hug,
That was given from the heart and said I care enough to stop, if even for a moment,
To say I Love You, in a quiet way.

Blessings as you consider what you can give to yourself and others – acts of kindness to help with the stress that comes with this time of the year.
