As we start a new year, there are countless resolutions that we want to make and do. We’ve all decided we want to start a “new” habit and soon we find we are stumbling and as we falter and mess up, we often throw in the towel believing we can’t “accomplish” what we want to.
The key to success, from my years of experience trying to “change” my behaviors, attitudes, life, etc., I have found that breaking it down to one small thing at a time is the very first and most important aspect. Take away what causes one to feel overwhelmed or “set up for failure” and your chance for success immediately doubles.
The second most important aspect is to start the process of learning to “love” yourself and being kind to “you”. Care enough about yourself to stop the demands and harshness when you slip up and “fail”.
It’s a package deal to learn to love your body for all it does for you, and to love yourself which leads to being able to love your life. When you can start the shift to knowing and understanding that God loves you and accepts you exactly where you are at with no expectations – then we can start to do that for ourselves. Doesn’t mean He wouldn’t like to see some changes (just like we do) but He’s there to help us and give us His strength to do what we need to do. He is not a God of condemnation and when we can learn to stop putting ourselves down, the faster and easier we can make progress.
As the old fable teaches, slow eventually gets you there as long as you keep going and don’t give up.
Remember to speak to yourself kindly and affirm that you can and will success in whatever the “issue” is that you are addressing. I Thank God and my body for the strength and health to do all that I choose to do.
Blessings as you begin again, and maybe again more than once, your journey to new accomplishments.
